I am Rafia J. Mallick, a critical qualitative and quantitative sociologist and fourth-year Ph.D. candidate at Georgia State University in Atlanta. My research centers on structural inequities impacting immigrant communities and racialized populations in the United States, with a specific focus on anti-Asian racism, South Asian diasporic identity, and the production of ethnic enclaves. Through an intersectional lens, I examine how patriarchal traditionalism, religiosity, and spatial inequality shape assimilation pathways. I also work on developing pedagogical approaches for inclusive social science education. My commitment to community-centered scholarship drives me to amplify marginalized voices using mixed-methods research that connects collective efficacy to community resilience.
My methodological toolkit integrates rigorous training in classical and contemporary theory with advanced technical expertise. I leverage quantitative methods (SPSS, R, Python, SAS, STATA, Qualtrics), qualitative analysis (NVivo, ethnographic fieldwork), geospatial mapping (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap), and digital tools (SQL, HTML, MS Access, LaTeX, Adobe Creative Suite) to investigate complex social phenomena. This skillset is grounded in nine years of experience as a lecturer and extensive work as a research analyst for community-based projects across Pakistan, New York, Oklahoma, and Georgia.
As a Graduate Research Assistant at GSU, I bridge theoretical frameworks with actionable data analysis to advance equity-focused scholarship. My approach combines methodological creativity with collaborative problem-solving, and I take pride in translating complex sociological insights for both academic and public audiences. I hold an M.A. in Sociology (University of Oklahoma, 2021) and an M.A. in Applied Public Policy (Hofstra University, 2011), building on my B.A. in Sociology (University of Punjab, 2007). I have also completed a graduate certificate in Geo-Spatial Information Systems from the University of Oklahoma. With my interdisciplinary background, I bring both a global perspective and a localized understanding to my work. I welcome opportunities to contribute my expertise in research, teaching, and social justice-oriented scholarship to meaningful collaborative projects.
